Fire control for wood windows

At first sight wood is an ideal fuel. And therefore as a material for window construction completely unsuitable? Wrong! Wood has excellent fire control qualities. With an appropriate window glass wood windows can prevent the fire diffusion up to 90 minutes. In case of a fire wood releases no poisonous substances.

Furthermore investigations showed that windows of wood remain inherently stable for a long period. Plastic windows already start to change their form at temperatures from less than 150 °C, what leads to panes to be cracked, more oxygen for the fire source and an uncontrolled diffusion of the fire.

If wood burns, a coal layer is building, which is not only isolation for the lying wooden layers underneath. This coal layer also takes the essential nutrition from the fire, which is the reason why the fire becomes extinct after a while. Windows of plastic can cause exactly the opposite: Some ingredients in the material work as a fire accelerant and heat up the fire additional.
