The KAPO apprentices: Learning by doing
The lady with the cup in her hands is called Martina Schweighofer. The 19-year-old learns the profession of the upholsterer in the third year. In the vocational school she was distinguished three times and took part successfully in several apprentice competitions. She is one of 13 apprentices who are currently trained to carpenters, upholsterers or office clerks at KAPO and Neue Wiener Werkstätte.
Yearly several new apprentices are taken up to the education, currently there is still place for five apprentices for the profession “carpenter” and two in the office. In spring and autumn teenagers can win an impression of the offered teachings within the scope of so-called taster days. “It is a mutual “getting to know” and should create clarity if we can work with each other“, says apprentice-instructor Franz Schlagbauer. By the way, four of five qualified apprentices remain in the enterprise. Also because KAPO and Neue Wiener Werkstätte are paying achievements individually.
